Here we are, Easter weekend in full swing and the car makers celebrating, not just at the tiring Auto show parade, this time in New York, but also including Toyota which came back with sales of more than 186K cars in the US Market up 45% from last year for March. GM is back too, in fact with just the four survivors it is up to 188K cars leaving the Ford recovery short lived at 184K cars, much higher than last year of course but still not the market share leader it was last month.
Apart from the sales numbers in US and China where PMI went up a good 5% and Car Sales rose for Toyota among others, a lot of optimism is being showcased in the Auto markets for new strengths as well. The next few cars that ride the fuel efficiency bandwagon need not be hybrids or otherwise performance deficient with 280 HP models going to make do with 4 cylinders instead of the six and 305 HP Mustang promising more than 30 MPG. Those are real eye openers. Saab is promising a new concept too under the new management team of Spyker’s Victor.
Going back to the Car Sales in March, Honda and Nissan are also back with 100K cars a month rising 20% and 40% over 2009 March. The good times are rolling and VW and Audi’s ambitious plans are not going to be easy to get, Chevy alone selling 133K cars in March.

The Ford recovery is still in full swing, as we recorded a 43% increase in sales in March. I think you may have meant that Ford’s lead was short-lived. That’s not a big concern for us either, as we’re focused on profitability, not sheer size.
