This newsweek guy takes the cake.
Actually Fareed Zakaria has been around a tad longer than my pseudonym zyakaira. That however has no bearing on the results of my reading of his blog and my study of his general habit of mispronouncements. As the online world requires a discipline in cultivating your brand and you are always susceptible to brand encroachment and ‘poaching’ not of ideas and thought but or valuable readership and influence, I must make clear before Advantage zyaada does step out of the holiday reverie.
Fareed’s pronouncements are neither representative of Indian opinion nor advancing a school of thought. They in fact are the only ones I find close to plain gainsaying for no other purpose than a creative kerfuffle
One can date precisely China’s debut as a great power. It was the evening of Aug. 8, 2008—the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. The event perfectly symbolized China’s rise, a spectacular and expensive feat of mass organization, directed by the country’s highly competent government. We might look back a few years from now and date India’s coming-out party to May 18, 2009, the day its most recent election results were announced. They are also a fitting symbol—in this case of India’s unique strengths, which are defined not by state power but people power, with all the messiness and chaos that implies. With 420 million people voting, the recent polls were the biggest exercise of democracy in history.
However it is not our subject matter and we will not interrogate the journo further esp as he needs all our good wishes in breaking the cans over with the government in Kathmandu. The Buddha controversy is a needless one, and India will always claim rights to Buddha and all the other great religious movements of the subcontinent, as we were a single Indian civilisation throughout and remain so.
We are management consultants/bankers and not to be put in the same boat or any other form of 2012 ship with journalists.
And we agree it is India and China’s coming out party, for 2009, this blog details how, what, where and whither from here..
